SHS EARLY DISMISSAL TODAY 11:30am-SHS Positive Case (March 1)
Dear South High School Parents, Guardians and Staff,
We were informed this morning, Monday, March 1, that a student at South High School has tested positive for COVID-19. The student was in school Friday, February 26th which was during their infectious period. The Rockland County Department of Health will be notified and will conduct contact tracing.
To allow appropriate time to identify close contacts and clean the affected areas, school will be dismissing today at 11:30 am and the building will be closed. Remote instruction for all students will resume today 7th period.
All after school and athletic activities are cancelled for today.
Those who were in close contact with the student while at school will be informed directly by the Principal, the school nurses or the Coordinator of Health Services and be provided the guidelines regarding quarantine. This process will be completed by 2:00 pm today.
While the building is closed, our facilities department will do a deep cleaning and disinfecting. During this time, we will complete contact tracing and assess the impact to staffing. This will assist in determining the date for return to in-person instruction which will be communicated as soon as possible.
This case is a reminder that the pandemic is not over and we must continue to practice the mitigating measures that help prevent the spread of the virus, including wearing face coverings, social distancing and washing or sanitizing hands.
Please remember to complete the Share 911 questions each morning before you or your students leave home for school.
