Letter From The Superintendent - BOE Presentations
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Clarity is an essential element for school districts to be successful. A goal of the February 8th Board of Education meeting was to provide you with a deeper understanding of our path to achieve our District’s curriculum, program, and instructional goals. I share the important information presented at the meeting in this communication.
I began a Board report with the following essential question: How do we meet the needs of all students based on readiness levels, interests and learning styles?
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Susan Yom then led a presentation highlighting the new approach to teacher professional development. Specifically, the presentation connected directly to the Professional Development Committee’s Goals of Writing, Co-Taught Instruction and Differentiated Instruction. Engaging our outstanding teaching staff in continuing and relevant Professional Development is a key component to ensuring the District achieves the best outcomes for our students.
Assistant Superintendent Yom highlighted professional development initiatives and categorized the pace of the work as follows: Accomplished, In Progress, and In Design.

Following the Professional Development report, the Board of Education was provided with a report on the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project Update. This report was provided by Michelle Zernone, Coordinator of English Language Arts and Social Studies.
As your Superintendent of Schools, I am excited about the work taking place in the District in order to provide highly effective instruction to our teachers. In addition to thanking Ms. Yom, Ms. Rafalik and Ms. Zernone for their reports, I am appreciative as well of the teachers, administrators, staff and Board of Education members for our partnership focused on student achievement.
If you have questions about the attached reports, please contact me. I wish you and your families a restful and rewarding Winter Break next week.
Sincerely,
Martin D. Cox
Superintendent of Schools
