The Clarkstown Central School District is proud to announce that Dr. Marianne Strayton, elementary math specialist at Woodglen Elementary School has been selected for the New York State Master Teacher Program for the Mid-Hudson Region. She is one of 230 educators from across the state, including 55 elementary teachers, who will serve as innovators and leaders in STEM education.

“It is an honor to have Dr. Strayton as an instructional leader at Woodglen,” said Wooglen Principal Lisa Maher. “She is highly collaborative with teachers in bringing learning to the next level and supportive of teacher vision and enthusiasm for new learning. Her initiative and perseverance will, no doubt, be a driving force in this New York State Master Teacher Program.”

Throughout their four-year participation in the Program, Master Teachers will engage in peer mentoring and intensive, content-oriented professional development opportunities throughout the academic year. Part of their focus is to work closely with early career teachers to foster a supportive environment for the next generation of STEM teachers. Dr. Strayton is the fourth educator from the District to be selected for the program, and the first at the elementary level.

“I am looking forward to collaborating with the educators across our region and our state. The NYS Master Teacher Program has facilitated many wonderful initiatives that increase access to rich STEM opportunities,” commented Dr. Strayton.

The New York State Master Teacher Program, launched in 2013, is a network of more than 1400 outstanding public school teachers throughout the state who share a passion for their own STEM learning and for collaborating with colleagues to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders.
