Laurel Plains Update- Hybrid Learning Resumes Monday, November 30th
EXTENDED CLOSURE
Dear Laurel Plains Parents,Guardians and Staff,
This is a follow up to our communication over the weekend informing you that a student at Laurel Plains Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, November 12th. The student was in school Tuesday, November 10 (Cohort B day) during their infectious period.
The Rockland County Department of Health was notified and will continue to conduct contact tracing.
Students and staff members who were determined to have close contact with the infected individuals during the school day were contacted directly. The Rockland County Department of Health will continue to conduct contact tracing to identify those external to the school environment.
Those identified as having close contact with the infected student will need to complete a quarantine period through Tuesday, November 24th.
Based on 12 instructional staff members now being unavailable due to a combination of quarantine, leave of absences, and vacant positions, along with any additional routine absences, we will not be able to ensure adequate staffing at Laurel Plains Elementary during this period in order to provide a hybrid instructional model.
As a result, the Laurel Plains Elementary School will continue with 100% full remote learning and return to hybrid instruction following the Thanksgiving holiday on Monday, November 30th which is an A Cohort day.
We ask that all in our community continue to practice the mitigating behaviors needed to control the spread of the virus. Wearing a mask, social distancing, hand washing and hand sanitizer use are important safety measures, in and out of the school environment, that can help to keep ourselves and others safe and healthy.
Thank you.
Stay strong! Stay healthy!
Sincerely,
Carol Pilla
