A Message From Lakewood Incoming Principal Debbie Mariniello
Dear Lakewood Elementary School Families, Students, Teachers and Staff,
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter as the incoming Principal of Lakewood Elementary! It is truly an honor to become part of the Lakewood family and community. From the moment I began the interview process, it was immediately clear to me that Lakewood Elementary is a special place, and I am incredibly honored to be chosen as the next principal to lead, care for, and support all students, teachers and staff.
I will join Lakewood Elementary with 25 years of experience as an educator. After teaching elementary school in grades Kindergarten through Sixth Grade, I served as the Assistant Principal and Principal of Dows Lane Elementary School in the Irvington Union Free School District for seven years. During this time, I remained committed to implementing and supporting the very best programs and practices that would move each and every child forward academically, socially and emotionally.
I bring a genuine love of what I do as an instructional leader, a collaborative colleague and passionate educator. During my tenure as principal, my commitment was to build a school community that embraced the whole child with a focus on developing a love of learning, fostering habits of mind and 21st Century Skills, and engaging all children in instructional activities that peaked curiosity, creativity and “hands on-minds on” learning.
This next step in my own educational journey brings me to Lakewood Elementary with a desire to become a part of a new school family for years to come as we learn and grow together. Joining the Clarkstown Central School District brings me closer to my home in Hillsdale, New Jersey where I live with my husband, Shannon, and two daughters, Grace (9) and Mary (7). They are the loves of my life, and as I strive to be at my best as a principal and colleague, I also strive to be the best teammate and mom I can be for my family!
Lakewood Elementary is a warm and wonderful place which was quickly affirmed during a special meet and greet breakfast with all teachers on Monday, June 17. It was wonderful to spend time with everyone, introduce myself to students, visit the Fifth Grade Fest and learn about the daily operations with Interim Principal Eileen Casey and the office staff. I was struck by the kindness, respect and openness among all teachers, staff and students. As I shared during class visits, students can look for their new principal wearing yellow in September to help recognize me and remember my name, “Mrs. Mariniello Yellow!”
Throughout the summer, I will continue my transition to Lakewood Elementary School and will work closely with school staff and district administration to prepare for an amazing launch to the 2019-2020 school year. I believe building relationships with all stakeholders is one of the most important pillars to a successful school. In the coming weeks, I look forward to sharing opportunities to meet, greet and get to know families, students, teachers and staff. I am truly honored to join your school community and I look forward to meeting you soon.
Warmly,
Debbie Mariniello
