On June 5th, students at Link Elementary World School held their annual Senior Citizen/Veteran Celebration. Continuing a seventeen-year partnership, a brunch was held honoring the senior citizens from the Clarkstown/Pearl River Senior Center, the New City American Legion Post 1682, and the County of Rockland Veterans Agency. Clarkstown Central School District’s Superintendent Mr. Martin Cox, Dr. Linda Hatfield, Director of Teaching and Learning K-12, and Board of Education members, Mrs. Bierker and Mr. Litvak attended.  Also in attendance were Mr. Chip Hayes, coordinator of Veteran Affairs, Mr. Al Moroni, Chief of Staff to Mr. George Hoehmann, Mr. Justin Sweet, Clarkstown Town Clerk, and Mr. Scott Milich, Vice Chair of Parks and Recreations Commission for Clarkstown. Students created brunch placemats, centerpieces, paper flowers, cards, programs for each of their guests, and provided the morning’s entertainment.

2019-06 LK Senior Brunch 5a Music Teacher, Mrs. Cynthia Kimmel along with Student Council Officers, hosted this community outreach, which represents a true collaboration of the Link School Family. Ms. Cynthia Kimmel, directed the musical entertainment and student concerts. Student Council President Elena thanked the Senior Citizens for their generous donation that was given to Link students last year in support of Red Nose Day.  She shared red noses with the Senior Citizens, some of whom happily donned the nose!

Under the musical direction of Ms. Kimmel, the student performers presented heart-warming spring and patriotic themed performances.  First on stage was the third grade Recorder Ensemble performing six toe-tapping songs. Next, the Fourth Grade chorus delighted the audience with uplifting patriotic medleys.  Rounding out the event was the First Grade chorus. They shared two adorable songs. Culminating the event was senior citizen Joan Noonan, who dazzled everyone with her tap dancing expertise!

In honor of it being the day before the 75th anniversary of D-Day, Mr. Al Moroni presented two military service awards.  One award to the Clarkstown Senior Friends which was accepted by Scott Milich and the second award to New City Veteran, Mr. Chip Hayes.

At the conclusion of the Spring Brunch and Concert, Senior Center Program Coordinator thanked Link Elementary for the hospitality and presented the school with a gift certificate commenting, “This is always such a wonderful outing. We look forward to this every year.”
