(June 4, 2021) Heat and Upcoming School Schedule

Dear Parents, Guardians and Staff,

On May 25th, we issued guidance on how the District will manage in extreme heat situations this year. This communication is here for your review.

As our area is expecting several days of extreme heat, Saturday, June 5th through Wednesday, June 9th, we wanted to provide you with our upcoming actions. As we continue to assess the heat situation, we must keep in mind the state tests scheduled for next week.

On Monday, June 7th, there will be a full day of in-person instruction as scheduled

We will evaluate the conditions Monday, and provide an update to you by Monday afternoon.

If the high heat conditions hold, on Tuesday, June 8th and Wednesday June 9th we anticipate the possibility of having a modified half day schedule, with in-person instruction in the morning and remote learning in the afternoon.  The Birchwood School and STRIVE and SPIRIT programs at New City, Laurel Plains, FFMS and South High School will continue with full day instruction during this time.

For the North and South students and staff who were expecting to receive their second Covid vaccine on Tuesday, we are working with Refuah to reschedule the van to Thursday, June 10th and will send a communication with that information later today.

Please keep your children hydrated in the high heat conditions over the weekend as that will affect how they feel and adapt to the heat on Monday.

Sincerely,

Martin D. Cox, Ed.D.
