Holiday Message from the Superintendent of Schools
December 21, 2018
Dear Clarkstown School Community Members:
I hope you and your family are enjoying the wonderful gifts that come with the Holiday Season.
In the spirit of the season of giving, I am appreciative of the numerous gifts I have seen shared in recent weeks, a small sample of them as shared below:
- Senior Citizens and Veterans of the Armed Forces coming together at Link IB World School for a Winter Brunch, an outstanding example of school and community connecting as one.
- Musical talents by students and teachers on display in the form of concert bands, guitar bands, orchestra, choir and a chamber choir at concerts I attended at North and South high schools as well as Strawtown Elementary.
- North High School students taking a leadership role by collecting over 5,000 books in a Children’s Book Drive, the books being donated to People to People.
- Birchwood students, under the leadership of Art Teacher Paula Stavros and Teacher Assistant Lynn Kalish, making creative and colorful crafts that were on display for sale at the school’s annual Holiday Boutique.
- Watching Special Education Teacher Chris Frank and Guidance Counselor Allison Frank, Senior Class Co-Advisors, add to the holiday spirit when leading a Senior Class hot chocolate stand fundraiser in the South High School main foyer.
- Listening to seniors at both high schools share the results of 13 years of studies as a Clarkstown student when telling the news about their acceptance to colleges and universities.
- Watching Music Teacher Jon Ross lead Bardonia Elementary Kindergarten students, parents and teachers in a Holiday Sing-A-Long.
- Closing out the week while joining staff of the Chestnut Grove District Office at our Holiday Lunch while appreciating the work they do behind the scene on behalf of faculty, staff and students across the District.
As your Superintendent of Schools, I am thankful to be a part of a school community that displays a caring and giving atmosphere. I wish you and your families a relaxing and rewarding Holiday Season along with a healthy and prosperous New Year.
Sincerely,
Martin D. Cox
Superintendent of Schools
