Fifth BW Positive Case - 100% Remote Instruction Though March 19th

Dear Birchwood Parents, Guardians and Staff,

We were informed last evening, Thursday, March 11th, of two additional positive COVID-19 cases at the Birchwood School, a student and a staff member. This totals 5 reported cases since March 6th.  The individuals were in school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, March 8th, 9th and 10th which was during their infectious periods. The Rockland County Department of Health will be notified and will conduct contact tracing.

Those who were in close contact with the individual have been informed directly by the Principal and Coordinator of Health Services who also provided them with the guidelines regarding quarantine.

Due to the cumulative effect on staffing as a result of these cases, the Birchwood School will remain on 100% remote instruction through Friday, March 19th.  In-person instruction will resume on Monday, March 22nd.

While we continue to practice the mitigating measures that help prevent the spread of the virus, including wearing face coverings, social distancing and washing or sanitizing hands in our schools, these cases are a reminder that the pandemic is not over and these measures, just as importantly, need to be practiced outside of school.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Jon Slaybaugh
Principal, Birchwood School
