BOE Workshop - September 17, 2019
Dear Community Members:
The Board of Education will be holding a workshop on Tuesday, September 17, 7-8 p.m. in the Conference Room at the Chestnut Grove Administration Building.
During the summer, members of the District Facilities Improvement Committee held meetings to discuss the state of facilities across the District and at North High School. The purpose of the workshop will allow for the committee members to share updates with the full Board while engaging the Board members on the following Workshop Agenda items:
a) Assistant Superintendent of Business John LaNave will present an overview of the projects recently completed as well as future planned projects that were already budgeted
b) Mr. LaNave will review a summary of the District’s debt and the school tax implications of adding new debt. In addition, he will provide an overview and discussion regarding the key priorities for District facility improvements.
c) A presentation and discussion will take place regarding a draft design concept for facility improvements at North High School led by Thomas Ritzenthaler, Vice President of CS Arch, our architecture and engineering firm.
d) Questions that the committee would like the Board of Education to consider at the Workshop include the following:
- Is the Board interested in using a scientific polling method in order to understand the viewpoints of the community for a Capital Project and the associated tax increase?
- Does the Board want to continue to proceed with the $4 million approved by the voters and designated for facility improvements at North High School? Or does the Board want to reconsider this spend while considering a Capital Project that includes comprehensive facility improvements at North High School?
The Workshop is open to the public who is welcome to observe the Board as they deliberate.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Martin D. Cox
Superintendent of Schools
