West Nyack Positive Case - 12:45pm Early Dismissal Today, Nov. 12, 2020

Dear West Nyack Parents, Guardians and Staff,

We were informed a short time ago that a student at West Nyack Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19. The student was in school Monday, November 9 (Cohort A day) and Tuesday, November 10 (Cohort B day) during their infectious period.  The Rockland County Department of Health was notified and will conduct contact tracing.

To allow appropriate time to identify close contacts, the school will be dismissing today at 12:45 p.m.

If your child normally takes the bus but you wish to pick them up, please email your child’s teacher by no later than 12:15 p.m. otherwise your child will take the bus home. If your child is a car rider, please note that the normal procedures are in place and car riders will be dismissed after buses and no earlier than 1:00 p.m.

Those who were in close contact with the confirmed case will be informed directly by the Principal and the Coordinator of Health Services. They were also provided information on the steps needed to return to work and school, which may include a 14-day quarantine period.

The West Nyack Elementary building will be closed for cleaning through Friday, November 13, and students and staff will be on 100% remote  learning. While the building is closed, our facilities department will do a deep cleaning and disinfecting. During this time, we will complete contract tracing and assess the impact to staffing. This will assist in determining the date for return to hybrid instruction which will be communicated as soon as possible.

The District has a multi-layer approach to keeping our students and staff safe. Wearing masks, social distancing, hand washing and hand sanitizer use are important safety measures we are taking at all of our schools.  We want to emphasize the importance of completing and reporting your health screening results each day you or your child is in our school building or on our buses.  The webpage www.ccsd.edu/share911 can provide more information on this process.

Thank you.

Stay strong! Stay healthy!

Sincerely,

Annie Streiff
