Positive COVID-19 Cases 10/20/2020
Dear Clarkstown School Community,
We were notified today of three positive COVID-19 cases within our District. None of the individuals involved were in our schools during their infectious period and no action is required on behalf of the schools. We are working in partnership with the Rockland County Department of Health.
One case involved the girls’ tennis team. As previously stated, the individual was at no time in the school building. Throughout the team’s practice yesterday all members were outside, distanced and wearing masks. The RCDOH was informed and is conducting an investigation. They will determine whether or not the team needs to quarantine for 14 days. However, the members of the team are quarantined until a decision is made.
In a separate matter, two siblings tested positive today. One is a South High School student (Grade 10) and the other is a Felix Festa Middle School student (Grade 8). The students were NOT in the school buildings during their infectious period. Based on the Department of Health information, it was determined that the District does not need to take any action.
Recently the number of positive cases of COVID-19 in and around our community has been on the rise. Everyday we reinforce the health and safety protocols the District has put in place that are meant to keep staff and students safe and mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
These begin with a health assessment by staff and families that is entered into the Share 911 app or computer link at the start of each day before coming to school. It continues with the wearing of face coverings, hand washing or sanitizing, and social distancing. Our buildings are cleaned and sanitized each evening and on weekends by our facilities staff.
We rely on you to implement and stress these practices at home. These are proven strategies. Please consider out of home activities as well, especially with older children who may be on their own at times.
Working together, we will be able to continue in-person learning in a safe and healthy environment.
Thank you.
Stay strong! Stay healthy!
Sincerely,
Martin D. Cox, Ed.D.
