Incident at South High School - Wednesday, December 7, 2016

UPDATE-

Dear Parents, Guardians and Staff of South High School,

As a follow up to our previous communication, we have been in contact with the Clarkstown Police Department. They have been able to evaluate the object of concern and determined it to be a container filled with concrete and that it is not dangerous. However, with abundance of caution, the police department will conduct a sweep of the building to allow us to return to normal operations tomorrow morning. All after school activities and facility use permits AT SOUTH HIGH SCHOOL are canceled for today.

Incident at South High School - Wednesday, December 7, 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians of South High School Students:

This morning an unusual container was found outside a classroom on a chair on the second floor in the hallway. A teacher informed security who then informed our SRO officer. Our SRO contacted his lieutenant who came to South and deemed the package “suspicious” and asked me to initiate a Safety Hold. We are currently in a Safety Hold and as a precaution, the Lieutenant called the Sheriff’s Department to investigate the package. The police then removed the package from the building. We will be dismissing the students for the day at this time as a precaution. Busses are in route to take students home and student drivers with their own vehicle have been dismissed. The Clarkstown Police will be continuing to investigate thoroughly and we will provide an update as we move forward.

If you have any questions please call the District Office at 845-639-6418
