SHS COVID CASE - Hybrid to Resume November 4
Dear South High School Parents, Guardians and Staff,
We were just informed that a student at South High School in the ‘C’ Cohort tested positive for COVID-19. The student is also a member of the junior varsity field hockey team. The student was in school and at practice on Monday and Tuesday, which was during the infectious period. The Department of Health has been notified and we are following the appropriate protocols.
Upon our notification, those students in Cohort ‘A’ who are members of the team were notified and dismissed from school today, as well as ‘C’ Cohort day staff members who may have been in close contact with the positive student. It was determined that an immediate dismissal for all other students and faculty/staff today was not necessary.
Students in Cohort ‘C’ who had direct contact with the student will be notified directly and will need to quarantine, as well as the JV Girls Field Hockey team, regardless of the players’ assigned cohort.
South High School will be closed throughout the quarantine period which ends Tuesday, November 3. There are six staff members now in quarantine. Due to these additional absences, South High School does not have the appropriate number of personnel to offer a hybrid model of instruction at this time.
The school will pivot to a full remote learning schedule for all students and staff beginning Monday, October 26. Instruction will begin at the normal time of 7:25 a.m. In-person hybrid instruction will resume on Wednesday, November 4, 2020.
All in-person after school activities, including athletics, are cancelled while the school building is closed, unless informed otherwise by the Rockland County Department of Health. The District will assess staffing regarding the STRIVE/SPIRIT classes and will communicate with parents following our decision-making process early next week.
Thank you.
Stay strong! Stay healthy!
Sincerely,
Deb Tarantino
