Important Updates-Schedule, Regents, Closed Campuses - April 6, 2020

Dear Clarkstown School Community:

I hope this communication finds you and your family members in good health and spirits.

I am writing today to inform you regarding matters connected to both the state and local levels as indicated below:

School Closing Continues Until April 29

In the event you did not hear today, Governor Andrew Cuomo extended the School Closing until April 29.  As we go forward, we continue to reflect and engage in dialogue about our current practices within our Home Learning Plan while considering enhancements to best meet the needs for all students.  In addition, the District continues to provide meals daily at Felix Festa Middle School for families in need as well as Child Care for children of families who are in the health profession or are First Responders.

Regents Examinations Cancelled

We learned today, according to Regents Chancellor Betty Rosa, that the Regents Examinations in June, 2020 have been cancelled.  An official announcement from the Board of Regents is expected tomorrow along with a Frequently Asked Question document.

School Campuses Are Closed

Despite a prior communication to our community that all 13 of our school campuses in the District are closed, I continue to receive input that members of the community are using our facilities for athletic activities and are not adhering to social distancing.  This concerns me as it pertains to the health, well-being and safety of everyone in our school community. It is essential to not go on school property in order for everyone to do their part with social distancing to stop the spread of Covid-19. Moving forward, the Clarkstown Police Department will assist the District with patrol cars that will frequent our properties and will ask any violators of this request to leave the property.

In closing, my thoughts and prayers continue for all members of our school community and global society as we continue to persevere daily while remaining optimistic for the pandemic to end and for everyone to be in good health.

Thank you.

Stay strong!  Stay healthy!

Sincerely,

Martin D. Cox, Ed.D.
