Movies to Look Forward to in 2019

With another year on the way, more upcoming films will soon be hitting theaters.  Some will be good, some will be bad (yet still make a lot of money), some will have The Rock in them.  As South’s resident movie expert, I would like to share with you all some movies to look out for in 2019.

 Captain Marvel CAPTAIN MARVEL

Following the rather depressing ending of Infinity War, many Marvel fans, both casual and hardcore, are still wondering: what happens next?  Despite not getting any answers in Ant-Man and the Wasp, it is safe to say that we will get some in Captain Marvel.  Taking place before even the first Iron Man, it’s about … actually, we don’t know what it’s about.  However, the first trailer was released recently, which also didn’t reveal much, except for Brie Larson looking at the camera and punching an old woman.  But this is Marvel we’re talking about, so the odds of this flopping aren’t too high-this might actually be amazing. We’ll have to wait until 2019 to find out.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX

If there’s one thing we can all agree on, Logan was amazing.  With another X-Men movie on the horizon, excitement is high.  However, this movie takes place a few years after Apocalypse, which was a flop, as many know, yet some deny.  That means that Fox will have to improve the characters of Cyclops and Jean Grey, who were introduced in Apocalypse, and find a way to make the Dark Phoenix storyline interesting.  Based on the first trailer, it seems that disagreement will arise between the X-Men, after they find out that Charles Xavier has been controlling Jean’s powers for years.  That most likely means that we will get a situation similar to Captain America: Civil War, which I hope that this movie won’t copy directly.  But if we get another Quicksilver scene, I will automatically become very glad that I saw this.

Glass GLASS

For those who are unaware, M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming Glass takes place in the same universe as Unbreakable and Split.  Unbreakable brought in David Dunn and Elijah Price (Mr. Glass), while Split offered Kevin Wendell Crumb and his multiple identities.  While Dunn will pursue Crumb’s identity of “The Beast,” Price will hold secrets to both men and their horrifying natures.  Although I have personally not seen Unbreakable or Split, I’m sure that fans of these movies are going to go nuts when this film hits theaters next year.  Since both films received positive reviews, it is most likely that Glass will be a major success at best.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part THE LEGO 2: THE SECOND PART

In 2014, The Lego Movie hit theaters and was an enormous success.  It was funny, smart, and had a great story. Now, five years later, the sequel will finally be delivered.  So far, we’ve only had one trailer, but it reveals that it’ll be taking place in a post-apocalyptic world, where the characters will be facing the Duplos.  This may not be too surprising(after the ending of the first), but that one trailer revealed enough that The Lego Movie 2 was very much worth the wait.

Toy Story 4 TOY STORY 4

We can all agree that the Toy Story series ended on a perfect note.  So with yet another movie on it’s way, you have wonder why Pixar wants to do this.  As someone who grew up watching the Toy Story movies, I’m very worried that this one may potentially ruin the ending of the third film. So far, we know absolutely nothing about what’s to come (besides some rumors that it’ll involve Woody and Bo Peep reuniting) but Tim Allen has said that the story will be “emotional.”  Yeah, it’s a Toy Story movie, of course it’s going to be emotional, Tim.  I’m not entirely sure if I’m actually going to see this or not, but for others, I’m sure that they’re not getting any sleep, because of how excited they are.

Avengers: Endgame AVENGERS: ENDGAME

While Captain Marvel may give us the answers on how the Avengers will defeat Thanos, the untitled fourth Avengers film will definitely deliver the action (EDIT: The title of the movie has been revealed to be Avengers: Endgame, and you can watch the trailer here).  That is, if the Russos don’t break our hearts again, and kill the remaining half of the Avengers.  So what do we know for sure? Absolutely nothing. At the time of writing this, the Russos had just finished working on the film, so something may have changed in the time that has passed.  However, the hype will only continue to build, as the actual conclusion to the Thanos storyline prepares its arrival. Whatever’s going to happen, tears will once again be shed. But hopefully, not because of watching our favorite superheroes literally bite the dust, and then the internet will turn it into a meme.  I guess we’ll have to wait until next year to be sure.
