Link IB World School Raises $31,760 for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital
The 5th grade student action, this year and last, at Link IB World School in Clarkstown was to involve the entire school in the St. Jude Math-a-thon. The Math-a-thon is a St. Jude fundraiser where children do math problems and get sponsors to donate money for the cause. St. Jude's was chosen as our action as it is "children helping other children." St. Jude's doesn't ask for a penny from families who need their services. All travel, food and medical expenses are covered by donations.
Our first drive was on March 3, 2017 with 2 assembly programs meant to get the students informed and interested in helping the kids of St. Jude. Students were encouraged to get sponsors, do math problems and collect donations from family and friends. Our second drive began on October 13, 2017 with the current 5th grade leading a K-5 assembly program. Students had 2 weeks, for each of the fundraisers, to try and raise as much money as possible by doing math problems.
The original goal of the fundraisers was to raise $5,000 but within days the donations totaled over $5,000. In the end, over 100 families participated in both fundraisers and raised $31,760. The Link families really came through for this worthwhile action.
Link IB World School is now listed as one of the top 100 schools to raise money for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee for the 2016-17 calendar year.
