    As we rush around this time of year, let’s not forget those in need. Our  Toys for Tots boxes will be picked up next Friday, December 20th.  Bring your toy to any floor office or Main office and receive a voucher for a free cookie from the GO Store. As always, thank you for being so very generous to those in need.  

    Club News

    • The Academic team won its second match yesterday by soundly defeating North Rockland. Senior captain, Coby Rich, led all scorers. Matt Clifford, Devan Shah, Joe Vito, Raj Lakhani, Sri Hegde and Karen Sabile all scored points leading the Viking’s into victory.
    • DECA will have a Stand Up to Cancer fundraiser event with carnival games and food on Saturday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. The entry fee is $5. At 6:30 p.m. a volleyball tournament will begin.  A $3 donation is requested to play and $2 to watch.  Thanks for your support.  
    • The Robotics Club will meet in room 181 today after school. 
    • The USO/Veterans Affairs Club will be meeting Monday after school in room 306.  Current and New members please plan to attend!
    • Come participate in the Cultural Club's Holiday party on Wednesday December 18th from 2:15 – 3:15p.m. The fee is $3 if you're not a member yet, and if you are a member, check the Remind!
    • Arcadia is South's award winning art and literary magazine. The next Arcadia meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 18th in room 221 at 2:05 p.m. New members are always welcome! 
    • Best Buddies:  Please come join us at City Line Diner for our annual holiday celebration on Wednesday, December 18th. Stop by the SPIRIT rooms for details and your permission slip.  All permission slips are due by Monday, December 16th!
    • Attention all shoppers! Get your holiday shopping done at South's Holiday Boutique on Tuesday, December 17th from 6pm-9pm. There's something for everyone! Thanks for supporting the Class of 2023.

    Girls Basketball – Varsity Girls Basketball defeated Yonkers 67-40.
    Kelly O'Sullivan led all scorers with 25 points. Jenny Palmer had 14, Megan Hackett had 12 and Erin Bacalles had 11.  Also, please come support the team and dine at Chili’s on Monday, December 16th from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. Pick up a flyer in the Main office to show your server.

    Congratulations to our Music department on their outstanding performance last night.  Our Viking pride shined as the Chorus, Orchestra, Band, Troubadours and guitar classes entertained all with an exceptional performance. Thank you for a great job Mr. Fogarty, Mr. Bonsignore, Ms. Leizman, and all our talented students.

    • The annual Blood Drive sponsored by the National Honor Society is today from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the auditorium. In order to donate blood, you must be in generally good health, weigh over 110 pounds, be 16 years of age or older (ALL students must have parental permission) and have not received either a tattoo or piercing within the past year. Your one pint of blood will go to save the lives of five people.
    • There is a mandatory Viking Connection Mentor meeting directly after school today in the Upper Library.

    Golf - There will be a pre-season Ladies Golf meeting today in the cafeteria at 2:30 p.m.  Anyone interested in trying out for this spring team should attend. Newcomers are welcome!

    Girls Basketball – Varsity Girls defeated Pelham, 51-42. Kelly O' Sullivan led all scorers with 17 points, Jenny Palmer added 14 points and Megan Hackett had 11 points.  The JV girls defeated Pelham 41-14 with a defensive effort. Makenzie Annesi led scorers with 9 Points
    Jackie Zodda dominated the boards with 10 rebounds.

    In addition, please support the girl’s basketball team and dine at Chili’s on Monday, December 16th from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. Pick up a flyer in the Main office to bring with you to show your server.

    • GSTA will meet today during extended homeroom in room 321A. We will be having a guest speaker so please be on time! All are welcome.
    • There will be one more VAASA introductory meeting today during extended homeroom. Any student who wants to try out for VAASA, and has not attended a meeting MUST attend this short meeting to pick up their packet in Ms. Solar’s office.
    • Minority Student Union will meet today at 2:05 p.m. in room 206.  
    • Radio and TV club will meet after school today in room 170 all are welcome!
    • Mock Trial will meet after school on Wednesday.
    • The Robotics Club will meet in room 181 today at 2:50 p.m. and on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday right after school.

Please come out and enjoy a night of live entertainment performed by South’s most talented students, all while enjoying a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. It starts at 6:00 p.m. and admission is only $5. All the proceeds go to Hope for the Holidays.

    SAT NEWS

    Students who are registered for the SAT exams at South High School tomorrow should report promptly to the side entrance, by cafeteria 103, near the custodian’s entrance, at 8:00 AM. All should bring positive

    photo ID, AN APPROPRIATE CALCULATOR as described in the registration manual and two #2 pencils.

    Calculators and pencils will not be distributed by the school.

    *REMEMBER THAT AS PER COLLEGE BOARD REGULATIONS, STUDENTS WHO DO NOT HAVE APPROPRIATE ID AND THEIR ADMISSION TICKET WITH AN APPROPRIATE PHOTO CANNOT TEST.

    Room assignments will be posted on the wall right inside the entrance area. Students who have problems or questions regarding their registration

    should report to the library for assistance. See Mr. Paul with any questions

    • Calling all Vikings! The National Art Honor Society will be having their annual coffeehouse this Friday, December 6th in the upper library. Please come out and enjoy a night of live entertainment performed by South’s most talented students, all while enjoying a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. It starts at 6:00 p.m. and admission is only $5. All the proceeds go to Hope for the Holidays. 
    • Attention Members of the United Way Club. There will be a meeting in room 307 this afternoon right after school. "Hope for the Holidays" will be discussed, as well as ideas for the coming year. Please bring your donation.
    • The Robotics Club will be meeting today and tomorrow after school starting at 2:15m. in room 181.
    • Politics in America will be meeting todayto debate and amend a bill regarding Facebook Advertising. The meeting will be after school in Room 301 and refreshments will be provided. We hope to see you there.
    • Are you interested in supporting our armed forces and veterans? If so, join South’s USO and Veterans Affairs Club. We will meet after school today in room 306.
    • There is a mandatory Assets meeting today after school in room 207. The Assets leadership team will be assembling backpacks for the homeless, so please come help!

    Wrestling -The Vikings went 1-1 yesterday at the section one duals with a 48-33 win over Tappan Zee.  Seniors Devin Heymann, Sal Iodice, Luke Rogers and James Sullivan propelled South to victory. The Vikings will travel to Long Beach, Long Island Friday and Saturday.  Good Luck to all the wrestlers!

    Swim & Dive - Last night, the Clarkstown Boys Varsity Swimming & Diving team kicked off the 2019-20 season by winning their opening meet. Team highlights include:  Michael Dwyer, Senior, was a double individual event winner in the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard butterfly events.  Michael McGillycuddy, Sophomore, was a double individual event winner in the 500 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke events. Patrick Crimi, Senior, was an individual event winner in the 200 yard Individual medley event. The 200 Yard Freestyle Relay was a win with Jason Kim, Junior, and Ian Kim, Freshman in the race.
