  • Congratulations to Dr. Matt Younghans

    Little Tor Elementary Principal Matt Younghans received his Doctoral Degree during a Hooding Ceremony at Seton Hall University on May 18.

    Dr. Younghan's degree is a Doctorate of Education in K-12 Administration from the School of Educational Leadership, Management and Policy.  Dr. Younghan's dissertation title was "The Effect of a Supplemental, Web Based Program on Student Achievement in a Suburban New York State School District."

    Congratulations to Dr. Younghans for this outstanding academic leadership accomplishment, and thank you for applying your knowledge to your work as a school leader in the Clarkstown Central School District!

  • Congratulations Birchwood School Graduates

    Congratulations to the five students who graduated from Birchwood School during the Graduation and Awards Ceremony held in the school's courtyard on June 24.

    The Class of 2019 Graduates include Jakob Doherty, Elizabeth Langer, Tyler Pavlik, Thomas Porter, and Matthew Stalter.

    Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Aaron Golland performed on the keyboard the selection titled By, Panic! At The Disco.  Principal Jon Slaybaugh provided students, parents, teachers, staff, Board of Education members and guests a Welcome Address which was then followed by an Awards Ceremony for students.

    Teacher/Teaching Assistant Christina Daniello received the Perfect Attendance Award for Staff.  Matthew Stalter won the Academic Excellence Award.  Other award winners included the following: Birchwood Memorial Award - Jackob Doherty and Tyler Pavlik; Helping Hand Award - Elizabeth Langer; SEPTA Award - Matthew Stalter; Nita Fierro Perseverance Award - Thomas Porter; Marilyn Gansler Personal Integrity Memorial Award - Matthew Stalter.

    Susan Buchweitz on behalf of Mary Porter, was a Parent Speaker. A second Parent Speaker was Susan Rothstein. The Alumni Speaker was Emily Blachorsky.

    Board of Education President Tammy Bierker and Vice President David Gosman awarded diplomas to students alongside Board members Christine Alia, Zizette Deutsch, Walter Litvak, and Irene Tagaris.

    I wish the Class of 2019 Birchwood School Graduates great success with their future endeavors!
