CHSN Names Class of 2025 Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Andrew and Gianna

We have (RAM)arkable news to share! Andrew Jaynes and Gianna Maltbie have been named the Clarkstown High School North Class of 2025 valedictorian and salutatorian! CCSD students Andrew and Gianna celebrated their achievements last evening during the annual Academic Banquet.

Andrew possesses a 102.80 GPA and is a member of the Science, English, World Language and Tri-M Music honor societies, Varsity Boys Tennis and Academic teams, Jazz Ensemble and Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse (VAASA) Club. He also serves on the Mu Alpha Theta Math (co-president), National (vice president of public relations) and Social Studies (executive board member) honor societies, Varsity Boys Volleyball (captain) and 8-Bit Rams Robotics (president) teams. A dedicated learner interested in engineering, computer science and linguistics, Andrew enjoys sharing his knowledge in these areas with younger students. At his alma mater, Andrew helps run Woodglen Elementary School’s FIRST® LEGO® League team – the Wolverines. Outside of school, he has been learning Mandarin through the U.S. Department of State’s National Security Language Initiative for Youth. Apart from his studies, Andrew is involved in the community through the New City Volunteer Ambulance Youth Corps (vice president), Town of Clarkstown Youth Court (steering committee member) and Coding4Kids (founder) – the last of which teaches programming to children countywide.

Gianna possesses a 102.29 GPA and is a member of the Tri-M Music, English and Science honor societies, Forensic League, Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council and VAASA. She also serves on the Mu Alpha Theta Math (co-president), National (vice president of in-school community service) and Social Studies (executive board member) honor societies, Varsity Girls Golf Team (captain), Science Research (president) and Cue & Curtain Drama (treasurer) clubs, and A World of Difference® (peer leader). A hardworking student, Gianna’s vast interests – music, public speaking, engineering and environmentalism – extend beyond the classroom, particularly the last. Outside of school at Columbia University, she conducts research within the Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics, and acts as a polar climate ambassador at its Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory as well as volunteers to conduct microplastic sampling, eel counting and release. Apart from her studies, Gianna runs Clarkstown for Climate – her own non-profit organization which hosts many programs connecting youth with nature.

The accolades don't stop there. Both Andrew (finalist) and Gianna (commended student) were recognized earlier this school year in the 2025 National Merit® Scholarship Program. Andrew will be studying computer science and computational linguistics – exploring the ways in which computers can understand and model human language – this fall at Duke University; Gianna plans to pursue a major in chemical engineering – focusing on sustainability, renewable energy and product development – at Princeton University. Well done!
