CHSS Commencement 2026

CHSS student walking during commencement

CCSD celebrated the achievements of 403 students this evening during Clarkstown High School South's Commencement Ceremony. Welcomed with roaring applause from families, teachers — past and present — and fellow graduates, the newest alumni savored their final moments together as Vikings before officially turning their tassels and beginning the next chapter of their lives.

Reflecting on the symbolism of a new pair of basketball shoes he once hesitated to unbox, Valedictorian Jason Chen encouraged his classmates to embrace life's opportunities. "As we leave Clarkstown High School South and take our first steps into the great separation, my hope for all of us is simple … step forward and take that chance, because shoes are meant to be worn and a life is meant to be lived." Salutatorian Yuemeng Zhang echoed that message by embracing the uncertainty that comes with new beginnings. Recalling how she once struggled to answer the question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" she concluded, "My answer is, I don't know. I am still in the process of becoming. But instead of dreading this question, I am now excited by life's possibilities, and you should be too, because becoming is a process."

Reflecting on her own high school graduation 40 years ago, Principal Debra Tarantino borrowed a few familiar lyrics from her generation to encourage graduates to embrace every opportunity. "Don't just sit around waiting for a star to fall. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going. Whether it's a new job, a travel opportunity or a chance to learn a new skill, say yes, and you may find yourself dancing on the ceiling."

The Clarkstown Central School District is incredibly proud of each of our learners this academic year, who have put countless time and energy towards achieving these and other educational milestones. To those who moved up, we cannot wait to welcome you back in September. To the classes of 2026, we wish you all the best in the future!
