September 12, 2022
Dear Viking Families,
Back-to-School Night will be held on Wednesday, September 21 between 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in person at Clarkstown High School South. The goal of the evening is for our teachers to provide an informative ten minute session about your child’s education at Clarkstown South. The evening will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. and will follow a DAY 6 schedule. Please refer to your child’s schedule so that you are aware which classes will be meeting.
During the evening, parents and guardians will be introduced to their child’s teachers who will discuss and review the scope and sequence of their course, grading policies, procedures, required materials, expected student performance and policies regarding homework. The progress of individual students will not be discussed. During conferences in November, parents and guardians will have the opportunity to schedule individual conferences with the teachers.
Parents and guardians interested in learning more about Clarkstown South’s SEL (Social Emotional Learning) activities and RULER are welcome to attend a social/emotional learning informational session prior to the teacher presentations. The presentation will take place at 6 p.m. in the auditorium, and the presenters will share information about RULER, the district’s SEL’s program, feedback from our students about the program and suggestions for parents to foster our children’s social/emotional growth.
During your child’s study halls or lunch periods, you are encouraged to visit our School Counselors who will have a presentation for parents every period in the auditorium. Furthermore, school psychologists will be available in the Psychological Services Suite on the third floor, and our Ray Roswell Library Media Center is open as well.

Back to School Information

August 2022
Dear Viking Families,
Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! Our staff is excited to welcome our students on their individual educational journeys with the goal of “preparing today’s students to conquer tomorrow’s challenges.”
A new school year brings us the opportunity for a new beginning of our school routines and experiences. I encourage our students to establish academic goals for the school year, to become active in the school community through clubs and/or athletics, and to take advantage of the resources of Clarkstown South. These resources include the Homework Center, teachers’ extra help sessions, and a late bus for students who participate in clubs or extra help after school.
See below for more important information concerning Back to School.
HOMEWORK CENTER
The Homework Center is available from 2-4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and a late bus is available at 4 p.m. for those students who need transportation.
SCHEDULES
Student’s schedules will be posted on the district’s portal after 3 p.m. on August 25th. School Counselors are in school the week before school starts. If there are any questions or concerns, Please email your child’s counselor. Your child’s counselor’s name is found on their schedule.
STUDENT PARKING
Students who choose to drive to school must have their parents complete the online parking form found HERE. Students who complete the form will be invited to a safety class provided by one of South’s Student Resource Officers. Once the form and class are completed, students should reach out to Security Officer Kukura to obtain a parking sticker. The cost of the sticker is $2.
ABSENCES
Students who are absent from school must provide a note or email with a legal excuse in order to be marked legally absent. Emails can be sent to South’s Attendance Office at SATO@ccsd.edu. Physical notes should be brought to the main office.
DAILY SCHEDULE
In order to satisfy a New York State mandate, this year, there will be a change in our daily schedule. School begins at 7:22 a.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m. The new bell schedule is below:
STUDENT AGENDA
The student agenda contains our Code of Conduct as well as other pertinent information for students and families. Every student will receive a copy of the agenda for their use in school. In addition, the agenda can be found online here: https://drive.google.com/file/
d/ 1qt3j5jrSAXYZYE6EW4u9LTL8QMiBq L1R/view Please review the Code of Conduct with your student(s) and encourage them to use the calendar for homework and long term assignments throughout the year.
MEETINGS
During the first week of school, the administration of South will be meeting with seniors, juniors and sophomores to share information about safety protocols and educational and emotional support systems available to our students. This information will be included in the Freshmen Orientation scheduled for this Tuesday, August 30th at 9 a.m. The other class meetings will take place as follows:
Seniors - September 6, 7:22 a.m in the auditorium
Sophomores and Juniors - September 7, 8:12 a.m. in the auditorium
LAPTOPS AND COMPUTER USAGE
Students returning to Clarkstown South have been issued a laptop for use throughout the school year. Students are expected to bring their laptops to school every day with a full charge. Freshmen students or those students who are new to Clarkstown South must complete the following form: CCSD Technology Loaner Program
Students who did not pick up their laptop at Freshman Orientation should pick up their laptop in the library during the first week of school. Students who are taking specific classes* that require additional programs on their laptops should see Ms. Foiles in the library.
[*Courses that require additional program installation are: Engineering, Drawing & Design for Production, Build It, AP Computer Science-Java, College Computer Programming Honors]
As we work to provide the best possible education for our students, we also look forward to having your support. To be most effective, it is essential that we work together as a team; therefore, I hope that our families will be involved with the South community by joining our PTSA and get involved with school committees or activities.
We look forward to welcoming all Vikings on September 6, 2022.
Sincerely,
Debra Tarantino, Principal
