Using the Big6 to Make a Magazine

Define the task:

Your class is going to make a magazine about Japan. Ms. Weintraub and Ms. Bryant will be the editor. You will be the writers and “photographers.” Each of you will research a topic of interest about Japan. You will prepare at least one page of the magazine with an informational article and picture/pictures.

Where am I going to find the information?

The Internet and books

How am I going to locate and access the information?

Once the topics have been assigned, your teacher and librarian will prepare a list of resources for you to use. It will be your job to find the interesting information to put in your article.

How will I put the information into useable form?

You will take notes about  the important and interesting facts about your topic. You want to be able to just put down a few words or phrases you will need to remember about your topic.  Do not write down whole sentences. Do not just copy.

After you have gotten all of your notes, then you can work on putting them together in good sentences. Your teacher and librarian will help you.

How will I put the information together?

First you will write your article in Word and save your pictures there. Then Ms. Bryant will show you how to copy and paste them into Publisher where you will design your magazine page.

How will I know if I did a good job?

We will develop a rubric and discuss this area in class.
