The following orchestral ensembles are currently being offered at CHSS:
The CHSS ORCHESTRA examines the outstanding repertoire of music written for the Symphony and String Orchestra. Music from Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods, along with ragtime, fiddling and contemporary works provide an abundance of material for study.
Students master the major components of music making- including historical periods and playing techniques, tone production, dynamics, intonation, rhythm, vibrato, bowing, positions, shifting and harmonics. Necessary skills in music reading and sight-reading are reinforced while working on such varied topics as: how to practice, ornamentation, history and evolution of instruments, concert etiquette and traditions.
All students are encouraged to participate in NYSSMA Festivals. These festivals provide students an opportunity to perform solos and small ensemble literature. Outstanding festival performers may be candidates for selection for All-County, Area All-State and All-State Festivals.
The CHSS ORCHESTRA performs at the Winter and Spring Concerts and National Honor Society Induction. If you want to be challenged the CHSS ORCHESTRA will help you to develop your musical potential in a demanding, yet supportive atmosphere.
