We also hold International Night at Clarkstown North. The night is filled with food and entertainment from around the world. The Asian Cultural Society is always looking for people who enjoy learning about different customs, food, and languages.

Students write articles on subjects of their choice in the areas of biology, chemistry, physics and earth science. In addition we attempt to include original student artwork with each article. The Comic Book Geeks club is for everyone who loves reading, collecting, trading, writing, and/or drawing comic books. For us, the term “comic book” includes graphic novels, comics, and manga. We have a lending library of comic books for members, so we can all read comics we do not yet own. In the past, we took a club trip to see V for Vendetta. Some members are even creating an original comic book that the club will publish. We meet every 3 weeks or so during the school year. We welcome all new members! Epiphany is the school’s student-run literary magazine, publishing fiction, non-fiction poetry and related artwork. Meetings are held on a bi-weekly basis from September to January. Layout staff continues to meet until publication in April.

Foreign Exchange is the annual publication of the Foreign Language Department. The magazine highlights various languages and cultures taught at North High School. Throughout the year, students submit literary works in Spanish, Italian, French, Japanese, Latin, and American Sign Language as well as original art. The staff of Foreign Exchange then selects the pieces which best represent each language. The magazine is published at the end of the school year and is distributed throughout the school.

The objective of The Human Rights Club is to raise student and public awareness of the horrific violations of human rights that exist around the world in the 21st century. Students organize fundraisers to help assist international organizations that provide aid to groups whose human rights have been violated. Other planned activities include a car wash and a Rockland Lake Bike Race that will help the club to accomplish its mission. Clarkstown North has been recognized as the first high school in Rockland County to have a human rights club.

197 Interact Ms. Singer/Ms. Weintraub Students participate in community service projects such as walk-a-thons, food drives, and road-clean ups. Various community agencies enlist students’ aid in fund raisers and volunteer work. It’s very rewarding to give back to the community that you live in!

The Italian Club encourages both students who study Italian and others to participate in a series of activities geared towards fund raising. The money raised will go to end of year scholarships to senior students who have exhibited an outstanding commitment to foreign language and the club during their high school years. The Italian Club hosts the Pizza Eating Contests, bake sales, and various trips or events to learn more about Italian culture. In May or June the club hosts an evening dinner benefit at the high school, “Una Serata Italiana” with Italian food and music.

J.E.T.S. or Junior Engineering Technical Society is a club which focuses on problem solving. Students who participate in this club prepare for a written exam which consists of questions that are based on actual problems experienced in engineering design. The content of these questions deal with many areas of engineering, from civil and mechanical to environmental and chemical. Students compete locally in late February, and if they are successful, their solutions to these problems are ranked against other regional winners throughout the nation.

Math League participants meet twice a month, one Monday and one Tuesday, to feed their brains with six challenging problems and to feed their bodies with as many doughnuts as they can handle. Math League consists of two components: the Monday Rockland County Math League (traveling team) and the Tuesday New York State Math League (North contests). Competitions are held from November to April, and newcomers are always invited. Participation in Math League fulfills requirements for service hours needed for induction to Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society.

The Mock Trial Team participates in the New York State Mock Trial Competition. The purpose of this activity is further understanding of the law, court procedures and our legal system and to help increase proficiency in basic life skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and reasoning. The Model UN club is a simulation of the United Nations. Students learn about the workings of the UN by debating current world issues. Students draft resolutions to world problems while representing the interests of their nation. The club attends two conferences a year, one in the fall and one in the spring.
