The Reading Support Program is designed to
help children in grades 1-5 develop and strengthen their reading and writing
skills to ensure academic success. At times children are seen in
small groups in their classrooms or in the reading room, which provides a quiet
and less distracting learning environment. Reading lessons are closely
aligned with the classroom language arts program.
To help children become successful readers and writers, it is important to
establish a strong ongoing home-school connection. Following up on
learning at home provides extra reinforcement of skills learned in
school/reading group.
Here are some ways you, as parents, can help your child become a better reader:
1.Read
yourself- when your child sees you reading a book or newspaper, he or she will
want to follow your example.
2.Make
sure your children read books on their level every day. Reading is a
skill that improves with practice.
3.Make
regular trips to the library or local bookstore.
4.Read
aloud to your children- its never too early or too late to begin.
5.Make
reading a pleasurable and fun activity for the entire family!
