What is Student Council?
Student
Council is similar to the PTA (Parent Teacher Association).
The Student Council lets the students come together to plan activities
and ways to make Little Tor a better school.
Our goal is to have Little Tor involved in the community, state and
world. Send
your Representatives and Alternates to meetings with a lot of good ideas for our
school.
Why do we have
Representatives and Alternates?
Classroom Representatives represent your class.
They are responsible for letting you know what was discussed at
the monthly meetings. They will tell Mrs. Miragliotta things that your class would like
to do to make Little Tor a better school at the Student Council meeting.
Representatives are expected to go to every meeting.
If a Representative cannot go to a meeting, they are to ask one of the
class alternates to go in their place. Representatives
are asked to report back to their classes on what was discussed at the meetings.
Alternates are invited to
come to all meetings, but they don’t have to. Alternates
will report back to the class when the Representative is absent.
What is
an Advisor?
An advisor is someone who supervises the meeting.
Parent Advisors will volunteer to help run each meeting and Ms.
Ward is the Teacher Advisor. They
make sure that the meetings run smoothly.
Student advisors may also
come to the meetings even if they were not elected.
However, Student Advisors may not vote.
What
are some Student Council activities?
The Student Council runs the school store, has participated in the
Holiday Gift Wrap, sponsors the UNICEF bake sale, sponsors food and toy drives
and spirit days, helps with Field Day, participates in the school-wide clean-up
and visits nursing home residents. We
usually buy a gift at the end of the year for our school from the money made
from the school store.
We hope for a fun-filled
year with lots of ideas from your classes.
