Writing the Works Cited Page

The Works Cited page is the list of all the resources that you used to write your report. In the Works Cited page you give credit to the authors of the books or articles that you used for your research. The list should be alphabetized by the author's last name. If there is no author, alphabetize by the title. Sample Works Cited Page

Use the following guide when you have to write the Works Cited Page:

Books

Authors last name, First Name. Title. City where the book was published: Publisher, Year.

Example:
Cofer, Judith. Ellis Island. New York: Penguin Books, 1994.

Periodicals

(Magazines &
Newspapers)

Authors last name, First Name. "Article's title." Title of the magazine. Volume. Date, Page numbers of article.

Example:
Gibbs, Nancy. "The Titanic Disaster." Time for Kids. Vol. 10. Jan. 12, 1996, pp.34-38.

Encyclopedias Author (if available). "Article title." Title of Encyclopedia. Date published. Volume, Pages

Example of print encyclopedia:
"Polio Vaccine." The World Book Encyclopedia. 1967. Vol. 14, p.147.

Example of an online encyclopedia:
"
Tigers." Grolier Encyclopedia. (Online) Scholastic Publishing, 2006.

Internet

Author (if available). "Article title." (Online) Web Address. Date found.

Example:
"Women Get the Vote." (Online) http://www.historyglobe.com.1 Oct. 1998.

Interviews

Person interviewed. Type of interview. Date interviewed.

Example:
Smith, John. Personal interview. 5 Jan. 1998.
