NYS Learning Standards for Mathematics, Science, and Technology

Standard 2: Information Systems
Students will access, generate, process, and transfer information using appropriate technologies.
Students will learn how to access, generate, process, and transfer information using word processing, search engines, Internet resources, and primary sources as they research for this project.

NYS Learning Standards for English Language Arts

Standard 1: Language for Information and Understanding
Students will listen, speak, read and write for information and understanding.
Students will read for information using web sites and primary sources. They will take notes about what they read and cite the source. 

Standard 3: Language for Critical Analysis and Evaluation
Students will listen, speak, read and write for critical analysis and evaluation.
Students will integrate the information from multiple sources, and synthesize their facts into an interesting and well written newspaper article using the "writing process" and their research notes. They will include quotes from their primary sources. They will include answers to the following critical thinking questions:
1.Why was the fort at West Point located on the Hudson River so      
     strategically important to the Americans?

2.  What might have happened if Major Andre had not been captured with
      the plans?

  NYS Learning Standards for Social Studies  

Standard 1: History of the United States and New York
Students will use a variety of intellectual skills to demonstrate their understanding of major ideas, eras, themes, developments, and turning points in the history of the United States and New York.
Students will take a virtual tour of historical sites to research Rockland County’s history during the American Revolutionary War using Web sites and primary sources. They will uncover the events of the Major Andre treason plot involving Benedict Arnold.
