Benedict Arnold, the hero of the battle of Saratoga, has gone mad! As a commander of West Point fort, Benedict Arnold surrender West Point for 20,000 pounds to Major John Andre, a British spy. Joshua Smith, a loyalist, agreed to let Major Andre and Arnold, meet in private at his house. Major Andre was captured by three American scouts. They stopped him and searched him, finding the coded plans in his socks. Benedict Arnold escaped and joined the Brits. He fought against his own country by attacking forts in Virginia and New York.
Andre and Smith were put on trial. The trial took place in 1780 at the Dutch Church in Tappan, NY. Andre was found guilty and Smith innocent. Andre was held prisoner at the 1776 House and was hung. West Point is located on the Hudson River, which is important because the British could’ve sailed up the river and captured the American ground. Thank god we caught Andre with the plans!
