Pirates burying treasure

Did we find it?

Use your knowledge of history, geography and the resources below or any you feel are appropriate to uncover the answers to the clues of the buried treasure hunt.

  1. Select a crew of 3 treasure hunters and name the ship you will be using to circumnavigate the globe to find “The Lost Treasure of Captain Kidd”.

Navigator – responsible for labeling and tracing the journey on the TREASURE MAPS.Draw a compass rose on maps to aid you in your journey.

Linguist – responsible for recording and spelling all the answers correctly for the CLUES.

Digger – responsible for determining the keyword(s) in the
clues and locating the information in the resources. The other
treasure hunters on the crew can assist the Digger. Remember

three heads are better than one!

   2.   Read each clue carefully. If you do not know the answer, determine
and circle the keyword(s) to be used to find the information in the
resource (Digger).  Teacher should explain how to determine keyword.

   3.   Choose the appropriate resource that you think will answer the clue. If
you do not find it in that resource, choose another resource.
The teacher should model how to locate questions #1-3 using the atlases and
          us-history.com.

   4.    Remember that SPELLING and NEATNESS counts. If an answer is not
spelled correctly you will not receive the final clue (Linguist). Review strategies for
          correct spelling.

   5.   On the treasure maps provided (United States and the World) place an
X on each location, label it with its place name, and trace your journey
before you move on to the next clue. Remember that SPELLING and
         NEATNESS
counts (Navigator). Teacher models labeling and tracing journey on maps for
         questions 1-3.

   6.    Most important: HAVE FUN on your buried treasure hunt!!!! Be on
the look out for other treasure hunters and pirates who might steal
          your clue answers.
