Curriculum Standards

NYS Learning Standards for Mathematics, Science, and Technology

Standard 2: Information Systems
Students will access, generate, process, and transfer information using appropriate technologies.
Students will learn how to access, generate, process, and transfer information using word processing, online resources, databases and the Internet as they research for this project.

NYS Learning Standards for English Language Arts

Standard 1: Language for Information and Understanding
Students will listen, speak, read and write for information and understanding.
Students will read for information in at least four resources including an encyclopedia, a primary source, web sites, and a magazine article. They will take notes about what they read and cite the source. 

Standard 3: Language for Critical Analysis and Evaluation
Students will listen, speak, read and write for critical analysis and evaluation.
Students will compare four distinct indigenous cultures and present their findings orally. Based on the data gathered, they will determine which tribe is faced with possible extinction.

  NYS Learning Standards for Social Studies  

Standard 1: Geography
Students will use a variety of intellectual skills to demonstrate their understanding of the geography of the interdependent world in which we live, including the distribution of people, places, and environments.
Students will compare four distinct indigenous cultures and realize that communities solve the basic questions of food, clothing and shelter based on the environment in which they live.  The students will become aware of the fact that many indigenous people’s way of life is being threatened and that some may soon become extinct.
