Timeline for eIditarod and eYukonQuest Collaborative Projects

January 4 - January 14, 2005

Introduce project: read Balto; show videos about sled dogs and mushing. This can be part of tundra study in third grade.

Introduce students to variety of literature about tundra, arctic, Iditarod through booktalks.

Students will do an art project on topic sometime in January and complete at end of February.

January 18 – January 28, 2005

Students will create a wall map of the trail.  Outline map will be available for them to copy from. 

Introduce students to Internet resources on tundra, arctic, Iditarod.

January 13 – February 11, 2005

Library media specialist and classroom teacher will collaborate to help students select a musher.  Students will do general research about the race and their musher.  Information will be shared on the project webpage.

Yukon Quest Race

February 13 to end.

During the race, students will check each day on their musher on the race website and mark progress on wall map.  Library media specialist will check in with each class daily to assist in reporting.  Information will be shared on the project webpage.

February 21 – February 25, 2005

Winter Break

February 28 - March 4, 2005

Mr. Frerichs will share Yukon Quest stories with classes and on Class web page.  Students will share the results of their research and artwork will be put on display throughout the school and on project webpage.  Students in eIditarod will continue to prepare for the race.

Iditarod Race

March 5, 2005 - end of the race

During the Iditarod, students will check each day on their musher on the race website and mark progress on wall map.  Library media specialist will check in with each class daily to assist in reporting. Email eIditarod at each checkpoint as musher progresses!

 

March 31, 2005

Receive an official 2005 eIditarod and eYukonQuest class certificates for completion of the trail!
