Bardonia Elementary School Library
Overdue Book Policy
Our goals:
We want to encourage our students to read for personal enjoyment and growth.
We want to enable our students to learn organizational skills and responsibility through borrowing and returning books from a library.
Our lending policy:
Any student may borrow one book or magazine from our library. The book or magazine should be returned at the next library class; however we do not charge fines for overdue books.
A student who has borrowed materials from our library will not be allowed to check out another item until all outstanding books or magazines have been returned. Exceptions are as follows: Students may check out additional items, (1) if a teacher requests it for class assignments or (2) if a parent notifies the librarian as to the status of the missing item and that they are looking for the book.
Honor Books: We understand that it can be very upsetting to a young child to misplace a library book. In order to ease the trauma on the child, we have "honor books" in the library. These are generally paperback books that have been donated to the library. If a student cannot check out a book or magazine because he or she has materials outstanding, then the student may take one "honor book" home until they find the missing item.
How you can help us:
If your child brings a book or magazine home, have them keep it in a special place, apart from other books or magazines in the house.
If the book or magazine is lost, please organize a search checklist for you and the child to follow. The one below is a good start.
Check among books in my room, look between dresser and the wall, look under the bed.
- Look under/behind furniture in the house, check closets.
- Look under the car seat.
- Did it get mixed up in my brother or sisters things?
- Look in my desk in the classroom, ask the teacher to help me look in the classroom.
- Other places to look.
