The Process

  1. You will pretend you are living in the 1800’s during the Civil War.  Then you will create your own Civil War Personal Journal.

  2. You will be assigned one of the following five specific scenarios: 

    1. You are an eighteen year old Union soldier married with one child.

    2. You are a twenty-one year old Confederate soldier with siblings. 

    3. You are seventeen years old.  You are working as a confederate nurse to help the sick and wounded.  Your brother is also a soldier in the war. 

    4. You are twenty-five years old.  You are working as a nurse to help save the Union soldiers that are suffering from an epidemic.  Your husband is also fighting in the Civil War. 

    5. You are seventeen years old.  You are an African American soldier fighting in the war to help the Union.  You have just been freed from your master and enlisted in the army.  You have lost touch with all of your family members except your brother.  He is in the army with you.

  3. You will record in detail about events and hardships that you face each day.

  4. GET STARTED by first reviewing your class notes of the previous lessons we have covered.   You may use any related activities or worksheets we have completed.

  5. You may meet in small groups with classmates that are assigned the same scenarios   

  6. You must explore at least five sources on the Internet.  You can start with some of the links found by:

  7. You need to fill out a Web Page Evaluation Form for each website you visit.

  8. You should ask  Miss. Stone, Mr. Pisano and Mr. Frerichs if you have any questions.
