Dear West Nyack Families,
Happy New Year! 2014 promises to be a wonderful year of learning opportunities for all of us! Hopefully, the chilly winter break allowed us all to regroup, reconnect with loved ones, and re-energize. There is much planned for the coming weeks, and I look forward to seeing everyone at the various events and celebrations.
Our 5th grade students have been working with Officer Robinson again this year to learn about the dangers of substance abuse and strategies for good decision-making. The D.A.R.E. graduation and celebration will take place on Tuesday, January 23rd at 9:15am in the West Nyack Elementary School Cafeteria. The members of the 5th grade will participate in a presentation which demonstrates both their leadership, as well as their commitment to “Just Say NO!”
Our 3rd grade students will be participating once again this year in the program at the Jacob Burns Film Center, thanks to the hard work and generosity of the PTA. This program, part two of the See, Hear, Feel Film program, integrates film and writing and engages students in sophisticated levels of thinking and analysis. Second grade students will welcome Lou DelBianco this month, who will lead them in a storytelling and writing workshop. Lou shows students how the elements of Conflict, Climax, and Character can make any story more interesting and unforgettable. Finally, Cliff Mendelson is meeting with the 1st graders for their “Day in Clay.”
As a reminder, we follow the Clarkstown Central School District Wellness Policy. Please plan any celebrations so that they are not food-centered. Your child’s teacher will have many good ideas for alternative activities for birthdays and other special days.
REMINDER - DISMISSAL ARRANGEMENTS
Students are allowed to change buses to go home with another child for childcare purposes only.
