Dear West Nyack Families,

It finally seems like spring is ready to join us!  We have a lot of exciting things happening at West Nyack Elementary School this April, so get ready!

Congratulations to Ms. Pasquale and her crew of rope-jumpers!  This year, West Nyack Elementary School students raised a whopping $7,645 – the highest amount since we’ve been doing the program!  Thank you to all the students and supportive families for participating in this terrific cause!

Our third, fourth, and fifth graders have worked hard to prepare for the annual New York State English Language Arts and Mathematics assessments this month.  Please be sure that they get plenty of sleep the night before and that they eat a healthy breakfast on the days of the tests.  We know that our Wildcats will do a terrific job!

This year’s lockdown drill will take place on Thursday, May 15th.  Teachers will be working with each class to prepare for this quick drill, which will take approximately 10 minutes from start to finish.  With the return of the springtime weather, we will continue to practice a variety of drills as usual, including fire drills and safety holds.

We follow the Clarkstown Central School District Wellness Policy, so please plan any celebrations so that they are not food-centered.  Your child’s teacher will have many good ideas for alternative activities for birthdays and other special days.

Please continue to be proactive about checking your family for lice and nits at least once a week.  Springtime sleep-overs present an increased opportunity for lice to spread themselves around as they move from one head to another when people come into close contact, so be sure to check carefully.  As always, Mrs. Kelly is happy to answer any questions you may have about how to minimize the spread of this unwelcome little visitor in your home!

Students are allowed to change busses to go home with another child for childcare purposes only.  In the event that this becomes necessary, please email Ms. Katt at the transportation office ( and cc the classroom teacher.  The email must include your child’s name, and that he or she attends West Nyack Elementary School  Please also include the name and address of the child they are going home with and a number where you can be reached.  You may also fax this information to Ms. Katt at 845-639-4061.
