10 Tips for Reading Aloud to Your Child

    ·        Make reading aloud a daily habit.

·        Be prepared. Put books in your car, in your briefcase, in your purse and read aloud at every opportunity.

·        Find a comfortable place, sit close and let your child turn the pages.

·        Repeat favorites – children love hearing the same story over & over.

·        Take turns reading out loud with your child; make it fun.

·        Read books you can be excited about too.

·        Don’t forget about non-fiction books. Biographies, poetry and even science books can make great Read-Alouds.

·        Visit libraries & bookstores – encourage children to choose their own books.

·        Ask your librarian for suggestions.

·        Relax and cherish these times together.
