BARBARA HEMINK- As a new teacher out of Cortland in 1973 Barbara Hemink went on to coach 23 seasons at Clarkstown South High School. As the Girl’s Varsity Soccer Coach (1973-79) her team won the Rockland County Championship in 78 and the Section 9 Championship in 76. She coached Varsity volleyball from 1974-79. She coached Varsity Softball from 1974-79 and won the Rockland County Championship in 1979. Barbara was the Junior Varsity Girl’s Basketball Coach 1975 & 76. She also coached a season each of Girl’s Junior Varsity Soccer and Cross Country. She was nominated for induction to the Clarkstown South Sports Hall of Fame by one of her former athletes, presently the Varsity Softball Coach, Maura Heebink. A testimony to the true impact coaches can have on their players. Barbara assisted with the Girl’s Athletic Association at South and was in charge of the “Leader Corp”. The Leader Corp was a group of students trained and supervised to assist in Physical Education classes. Barbara Hemink retired from teaching and coaching in 2006.
KENNETH ULRICH “96”-As a freshman in high school Kenneth Ulrich played Varsity Football and Baseball. He played Junior Varsity Basketball and was chosen by the coaches as male Freshman Athlete of the Year. He went on to play 3 more years of Varsity Football and baseball. He also continued to earn male Athlete of the Year as a sophomore, junior and senior. He was captain of the football and baseball teams, All-League and All-County twice in each. As a senior he was The Rockland county Lineman of the Year in football. Kenneth was All-Section in baseball twice and a member of Who’s Who among High School Athletes. At Rockland Community College he was All-Conference and All Region fro two years. As a member of Rutgers Baseball team he helped the team to the Big East Conference Championship. Kenneth was on the 1st team of the 2000 All-National Junior College Baseball Association as a catcher.
CHARLIE VALOIS ”78-As a football player at South he was All-County twice, 1st team Orange and Rockland and All-New York State as an Offensive Tackle. He was a two time Rockland County Champion Wrestler. Charlie was a Section 9 Champion once and a two time wrestling finalist. He finished 6th in New York State Public High School Athletic Association Wrestling Championships. He went to wrestle at Southern Connecticut University. In 1980 he placed 3rd in the Junior Olympics. In 1981 he placed 6th in the nation. In 1982 he placed 7th in the nation and was recognized as a Division II All-American. He also finished 1st in the Eastern States Wrestling Tournament.
JAYMIE ROSARIO “95”-As an accomplished volleyball and softball player she earned many accolades. She was All-County, All-League and All-Section three times in volleyball and the same in softball for two years. She continued her volleyball prowess at Rockland Community College. Where she was a Junior College 1st team All-American, Regional Player of the Year, Most Valuable Player of the Region Tournament, Mid-Hudson Conference, Mid-Hudson Conference Tournament and Rockland Community College. Jaymie transferred to Western Connecticut and continued to excel. She made invitational tournament teams, was the Little East Conference (LEC) player of the year and LEC Tournament MVP three times. Jaymie was Player of the week four times. She was team Western Connecticut’s MVP and on the Player of the Week Honor Roll twice. She broke 16 school records including assists and serving aces. She was co-captain and made the NCAA All-Region Team as a senior. She was voted the All-time Best Volleyball Player to ever play at Western Connecticut. After graduating she was a member of the USA Athletes International Volleyball team and participated in the US Professional League try-outs.
TOM HEIM “89”-What Thomas Heim accomplished in Clarkstown may never be matched again, since the district chooses not to allow middle school students to be classified to play high school sports that have cuts. He was the goalkeeper on the Boy’s Varsity Soccer team from 8th- 12th grades. He was All-League and 1st Team All-County three times. He was also All-Section twice. As a senior Thomas was Player of the Year, League MVP, 1st Team All-State and All-American. The team was undefeated in league play his senior year and he recorded 7 shutouts. Thomas was a four year Varsity Basketball Starter and was All-League and All-county as a junior. He won two gold and one silver metal as a member of the Boy’s Scholastic Hudson Valley Empire State Games Soccer Team and a bronze as a member of the men’s team. He was invited to try out for the US National Team twice and accelerated on many club teams during and prior to high school. He played on American University’s Men’s Soccer Team and played in the National Junior College Athletic Association Final four Soccer Championships with Ulster Community College.
