SPORTS HALL OF FAME 2003 INDUCTEES
Scott Ketcham 1975
Three-year starter as a varsity football player. Four-year starter as a varsity
wrestler. Two-time all county wrestling team. New York State and Section 9
Heavyweight wrestling champion in 1975. The first Clarkstown South State
Champion. Varsity wrestler four years at Amherst College. Undefeated in dual
meets as a freshman. Coached at the high school and college ranks.
Joseph Tarangelo 1979
Participated for three years on the varsity baseball team. Only player in
Clarkstown history to be named first team Al County for three years. Received a
scholarship to C. W. Post
University where he was All-League three years and All-State two years. Signed
with the Minnesota Twins organization after graduating from college.
Paul Sklar 1989
All-League, County and Section for Cross Country. Cross Country Section Champion
1998 and state qualifier. All-League and County for winter track. League and
Section Champion. School record. League, County, Section and Eastern States
Champion. Holds four school records and one county record. Received a
scholarship to Wake Forrest University.
Sheri Puppo 1997
Played six years for South’s Varsity tennis team. Accumulated a record of
103-12 as number one singles player. All-League, County and Section for three
years. Journal News Player of the year three times. County tournament champion
and three straight Conference Singles Championships. Participated on the Varsity
Softball team four years. Three years All-League, County and Section. Played
four years of tennis at James Madison University.
Boys’ 1995 Spring Track Team
Undefeated dual meet record (10-0). League, County and Section Champions. There
were eleven different runners that made All-County, four second team All-County
and three honorable mentions. Thirteen made All-Section. Two individuals and one
relay team made All-State. The team broke eight different school and two
different county records. They too first at one invitational meet and second
three times. Some of those meets had as many as one hundred teams competing.
