90’s
Sharline White – Participated in the NYS Track Championships five times; U.S. National Champion Triple Jumper and Runner up Long Jumper; All League, County and Section for 3 years; Four year full scholarship to Farleigh Dickinson University, All American Triple Jumper at F.D.U.; Second at the Penn Relays; Jamaican Olympic Team Alternate.
80’s
Maureen McCarthy – 1500+ points for basketball; Member of undefeated season; All County and State; Scholarship basketball player on Vermont University’s undefeated team; Played in the NCAA Championship basketball tournament; four year soccer player at South and captain of the team (led team to division sectional championship).
Eileen Shiel – Eleven season Varsity athlete. County indoor mile record for 17 years; All County and Section; NYS Track and Field Championships 7 times. Held school records for the 800, 1500, 1600, 3000, 3200 and 5000 meter runs. Received a scholarship to the University of Virginia for Cross Country; Competed in the Junior Nationals. Excellent student. Current sculpture. Finished 2nd in first high school race against Joette Clark (US Olympic Team Member).
70’s
Brenda Saunders – Stuckey – Field Hockey, Swimming, Cross Country and Track and Field. First female athlete to compete with males in Clarkstown. Competed against boys on the Indoor Track and Cross Country teams. Anchored the first Girls’ Track and Field team to a Sectional Championship. Placed 3rd at the NYS Cross Country Championships 3 times. Received full scholarship to the University of Missouri. Big 8 10,000 meter champion twice. Finished 8th at nationals. Holds current 2-mile county record.
Kathy Nowell – Varsity Swimming 2 years. Three Sectional titles each year. New York State Champion in 400 meter freestyle relay, Set State Records in 100 Butterfly and 200 Freestyle. 100 meter butterfly High School All-American. Full scholarship to South Carolina University. Division I All-American in three events.
Coached at South for ten years. The 84 Swim team (Inductee.)
Virginia Geerdes – Coached Field Hockey, Basketball and Track. Seven consecutive Rockland PSAL track Championships. Girls Athletic Association Advisor (promoted girls sports programs). Driving force behind the implementation of title IX in Clarkstown. Negotiated parity in salaries for coaches.

Mike Schroer – All League, County, Section, State and American winter and spring Track, NYS Track Championships eight times (six 2nd place finishes); U.S. National 800 meter champion; Section record holder for nine years, Full track scholarship to Georgetown University; All American three years at Georgetown; Competed twice at Olympic trials (5th place)
80’s
James Cann – Varsity Football 3 years, All county; 3 years Varsity Baseball; 2 years Varsity Basketball; Rutgers University, 5 years football and 2 years basketball.
Glenn Marina – A County Football for 2 years, 2 time 100 yard rusher, All County Track for 3 years, 100 meter dash record holder until 1999, Full Scholarship to Holy Cross, 4 year All Academic All American.
70’s
Joe Valentino Joe Valentino – Varsity Football, winter and spring track 3 years. First team All County (football, winter and spring track) All County Offensive and Defensive Lineman of the Year. First team All State Defensive Tackle. Prep All American Honorable Mention (football). Placed 5th at the NYS Track Championships (shot put). Scholarship to University of Delaware. Honorable mention All East Team at Delaware. Tried out with the New England Patriots, New York Giants and the Miami Dolphins. Coached 1 year of football at South.
Kyle Dietrich – First team All County Soccer (3x), Section 1 and 9 Championship team. Full Scholarship to Keene State in New Hampshire. All New England and American. Played in the English Premier League of professional Soccer. Drafted by the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the North American Soccer League. Also played for Detroit and Cleveland professional teams. Four years Varsity Hockey at South, All County all four years. Kicker for the Varsity football team.
Maurice (Mo) Scro –Football Head Varsity Coach, 3 County Championships, 2 League Championships, Track Coach with many All State Athletes from both sports.
The 84 Girls’ Swim Team – Conference Champions, Section Champions, Five Consecutive Undefeated Seasons
The 78 Boys’ Basketball Team – League/Conference, Section and Regional Champions. Only undefeated basketball team in the regular season. Lost in state semifinals to eventual state championship team from Mount Vernon, Rodney and Scooter McRae).
