Working together to maintain an environment where HEALTHY STUDENTS ACHIEVE

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As healthcare practioners caring for your children in the Clarkstown School District our main goal is to aid in the prevention, control and spread of all communicable transferable illnesses and infections.  To help achieve these goals I would like to share the following information with you.

If your child is complaining of nausea, ear pain or sore throat, or lacks appetite, chances are he/she is ill. The following guidelines will help you make the decision to keep your child home.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL IF THEY
·        are waiting "strep throat results"
·        are complaining of a sore throat and it appears red
·        are complaining of nausea, vomited the night before or in the morning
·        have or had a fever of 100* degrees or more the night before or in the morning
·        have a suspicious rash
·        have a red, draining itchy eye or both eyes

We are aware that it is difficult when your child becomes ill, especially with the increase in numbers of both parents working daily. However, as school nurses, we are not equipped to monitor and maintain students who are ill over several hours.  In the event that your child does come to school ill or becomes ill while in school, we must contact you to pick them up as soon as possible.  Please make every effort to have emergency pick up for your child in case you are not available.

For the safety and well being of your child, please keep the school informed of any change in phone numbers for emergency contact purposes.  Also remember to notify the school when your child is going to be absent.

I look forward to working with you and your child during the school year.

Thank you for your cooperation.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your school nurse.

Sincerely,
Anita Buhler RN,BSN
