Rockland County Bicentennial Celebration Brinks Robbery Opening of Palisades Center Mall
In 1998 Rockland County celebrated it's 200 year anniversary . Opening day began on February 22, 1998 with a spectacular, star-studded celebration. In October of 1981 a Brinks armored car was attacked by terrorists at the Nanuet Mall in Nanuet, New York. One guard was killed and two, seriously wounded. Two Rockland County police officers were the first to be killed in modern times. The Palisades Center Mall, the second largest in the nation, opened in West Nyack, New York after much controversy.  The mall is a complete family entertainment center, housing a 21 complex movie theatre, ten restaurants and well renowned anchor stores.
