Before that the only option fro Rockland
residents was a wait at the Suffern railroad station for a train to Middletown
or Paterson Hospitals.
Good Samaritan came shortly afterwards in 1902, thanks to Mrs. Ida Barry Ryan, local philanthropist. In its original form it was a modern for the day, fully-equipped seven bed facility, complete with laboratory, offices and other amenities.
